5 Ways to Get Out of Bed in the Morning and Get Exercising

Get Moving in the Morning in 2021: 5 Ways to Get Out of Bed in the Morning and Get Exercising : The best time to exercise is always when you will be able to do it consistently, whether that’s first thing in the morning or after you get home from work.

In general though, I believe that first thing in the morning is the best time to get your sweat on. Working out in the morning sets the pace for the rest of your day.

Getting up early is easier said than done. But with a few tips that have worked for me over the years, you can become an early-morning exerciser in no time.

  1. Wake up peacefully and gradually

Something that helps me wake up in the morning is a sunrise alarm clock. These use a soothing light that gradually grows into a bright light, which allows you to wake up more naturally than with a blaring alarm. I use the Phillips SmartSleep Wake-Up Light and many mornings, wake up before my alarm even goes off.

If you do use a normal alarm in the morning, don’t sleep with your alarm right next to your bed. It’s too easy to hit the snooze button that way. Put your alarm or phone across the room, or in the bathroom. That way, you have to get up and out of bed to turn it off. You can go one step further and use an app like Alarmy that requires you to take a picture of something or solve a short puzzle in order to turn it off.

  2. Set out your workout clothes the night before…and make them cute.

Having workout gear that you are proud to wear puts you in a good mood in the morning. And not having to think about what you are going to wear first thing in the morning is an added bonus. When I hit a goal, I like to buy a new exercise outfit. It’s important to set small goals and reward yourself when you reach those goals.

  3. Grab your gear

Whether you are going for a morning run or doing a workout in your living room, it’s important to have the right gear. Proper-fitting running shoes. Resistance bands. Jump rope. Several levels of weights. Being prepared ensures you have a safe and effective workout.

  4. Pump up the jam

Nothing gets a workout going and your heart pumping like great music. I like to start with a power song. Pick a song that speaks to you and that puts you in the right mindset to work out. My power song is “Lose Yourself” by Eminem.

  5. Have an accountability partner

Whether it’s someone expecting a text message from you first thing in the morning, a daily Instagram photo that you post every day letting your followers know you are up and working out, or a running buddy, be accountable for your early morning workouts. It’s much harder to hit the snooze button and go back to sleep when you know you have people that believe in you and are cheering for your success.
