For radiance that doesn’t rinse off with your face wash, trade your bronzer for a blender. Ian Stephen, a psychologist at Australia’s Macquarie University, and other researchers found that beta-carotene supplements give skin a healthy glow. Now Stephen is leading a team to test if drinking a daily smoothie rich in carotenoids—think: carrots, sweet potatoes, cantaloupe, even romaine lettuce—has the same effect. Studies are ongoing, but he says the results look promising. Here’s to a natural summery glow—minus the sun damage.
Superglow Smoothie
(Makes 4 cups)
- 12 oz cantaloupe, cut into chunks and frozen
- 6 oz carrots, peeled and cut into chunks
- 1 c shredded romaine lettuce
- ¼ tsp ground cardamom
- 1 c unsweetened almond milk
Combine all ingredients in blender and puree until smooth.
