Almost every family has a beautiful Christmas tree during the holiday season. Kids as well as adults enjoy decorating the tree and do it with a huge joy and creativity. When my eight-year-old niece asked me to tell her some interesting things about Christmas tree, I didn’t have lots of really interesting things to tell, so I decided to do a little research and found out incredible facts about Christmas trees. These facts will be interesting not only for your kids, but for you as well. I’m pretty sure that most of the things I’m going to speak about you don’t know and they will be absolutely new for you. Without further ado, here is my list of 15 interesting facts about Christmas trees.
1. The first decorated tree
The first decorated Christmas tree was in Riga, in 1510. Since then people from all over the world decorate the Christmas tree every year. While some people don’t like a Christmas tree, I can’t imagine the holiday without a beautiful spruce.
2. Growing
Did you know that it takes more than 15 years to grow a live Christmas tree? Sure, it’s a sad fact, but can you imagine your house and your holiday without a festive Christmas tree? I can’t, so I’m going to visit one of the best Christmas markets and buy the most beautiful tree.
3. The first sale
The sale of the first Christmas tree started in 1850, in America. Nowadays, it’s possible to buy any Christmas tree in almost every city in the world.
4. The Norway spruce
The Norway spruce is the most traditional Christmas tree. However, it doesn’t stay the same due to the cold temperature during the Christmas season.
5. Great selling
Every year more than 3 billion artificial Christmas trees are sold in the United States and UK. This is a true fact and I was really astonished when I found out this information, since I know lots of people who are against Christmas trees.
6. Christmas tree industry
The research show that each year 100,000 people and more are employed for full time or part time in the Christmas tree industry.
7. Christmas tree varieties
More than 60% of people in the United States choose Douglas fir and black spruce as the Christmas tree while people of Britain usually choose silver fir and the Norway spruce for Christmas season.
8. The first artificial tree
If you prefer an artificial tree, probably, it’ll be interesting for you to know that the first artificial Christmas tree was developed in the 19th century, in Germany. It was made from the goose feathers dyed in green color in order to give it a wonderful Christmas tree effect.
9. Decorations
I can’t tell whether you know this fact or not, but I know that many people, including me, didn’t know it. When a person decorates Santa on their Christmas tree, it depicts the good-will that the holiday brings. A heart depicts a real love for God. And when people put pine cone and fruit basket on the Christmas tree, it depicts fruitfulness and generosity.
10. Modern artificial Christmas tree
Nowadays most artificial Christmas trees are made from the original PVC (Polyvinyl Chloride) plastic. Although I prefer a live Christmas tree, the look of today’s artificial trees is quite realistic.

There are over 4000 Christmas Tree Recycling Programs in the United States. I think these programs are good for environment conservation. Plus, it’s good for the local economy as well as your peace of mind.
12. Clean air
A traditional Christmas tree removes dust and pollen from the air. If you decide to buy a live Christmas tree, you will have a huge benefit. The tree will help purify the air in your house during the whole holiday season.
13. Popular Christmas trees
Scotch pine and white pine are the most popular Christmas trees. People also prefer to buy Noble fir since it’s incredibly beautiful tree. In fact, everybody has their favorite type of Christmas tree, so it’s up to you to decide which tree you will have.
14. Pre-lit Christmas tree
There are plenty of different pre-lit Christmas trees these days. They come with snow and are available in different colors. All you have to do is just hang the decorations on your Christmas tree and enjoy its beauty.
15. Upside-down Christmas tree
I’m sure you’ve noticed that some malls, especially in the United States, hang Christmas trees upside down. Why do they do this? They do this in order to save on the space. Great idea!
No Christmas is complete without a wonderfully decorated tree. It’s our tradition to decorate spruce or fir tree on Christmas and I don’t understand those people, especially families with kids, who refuse to have a Christmas tree.
