Gender Neutral Perfume Line Tabbeau Place by Onyi Ifeguni Breaks Boundaries in the Beauty Industry : There are certain challenges that come with being a female CEO in a largely male-dominated industry. Double standards, facing unconscious biases, limited access to networking, and dealing with media attention are all problems that female CEOs have to deal with when building a company from the ground up.
But women know it can be done. Giants like Estée Lauder, Pat McGrath, Jo Malone, and Carolina Herrera all prove that women can take the plunge and create beauty products by women, for women. Or men!
Onyi Ifeguni, Nigerian biochemist and entrepreneur, was drawn to the path these inspirational women have paved for other female entrepreneurs. As a long-time chemist with degrees in Industrial Chemistry, Forensic Chemistry, and Biochemistry, respectively, it was destined that Onyi was to become a master perfumer.
As a chemist with expertise in these three areas, Onyi used her talents to create perfume oils in her basement, subsequently gifting her creations to family and friends for their birthdays and holidays. When she moved to the United States to live with her husband in 2016, she began to reverse-engineer luxury perfumes and actually improve their performance. She believes if you are to pay top dollar for a perfume, it should have an impact when you walk into the room and last at least two days.
Though initially self-taught, using only her chemistry knowledge, Onyi decided to get a formal education in fragrance at Versailles ISIPCA School. That was the beginning of Tabbeau Place, her brand of perfumes that complement the skin and work to make the wearer feel confident.
Tabbeau Place is committed to prioritizing beauty with no negative impact on you or the planet. Using only ethically sourced, sustainable ingredients, Tabbeau’s perfumes emphasize beauty without the cost of damaging the environment. Formulated with nontoxic, naturally derived ingredients, Tabbeau Place places an emphasis on healthy, clean beauty without compromising high performance.
A Nigeria native, Onyi takes pride in her heritage. Both of Onyi’s parents were entrepreneurs in Nigeria, serving as inspiration alongside the famous female cosmetic pioneers.
Her late father, a textile manufacturer and business mogul, operated a global network of fabrics from Onyi’s birthplace in Nigeria. Onyi’s mom, a celebrity fashion designer, created wardrobes for Nigeria’s socialites and made them look good- clearly a family tradition.
Onyi says, “Their business acumen inspired me definitely… adding value to not just their customers but to also the employees that worked for them.”
Tabbeau’s gender neutral perfumes are sexy, bold, and daring, enabling the wearer to express their most authentic self through fragrance. By breaking the boundaries of scent, and freeing men and women from having to smell a certain way, Tabbeau is changing the beauty standard one vial of perfume at a time. Onyi’s story goes to prove that it only takes one woman to rock the boat in the industry.
