10 Amazing Benefits Of Oatmeal: What is the definition of a great morning meal? Well, some would say, bacon and cheese, some would say bread toasts with butter, but an ideal morning meal can’t be completed with a bowl of oatmeal. It doesn’t matter if someone wants to have oatmeal with milk or with veggies, but it is important to have a breakfast that is rich in nutrients, which oatmeal is in my opinion.
I personally like oatmeal a lot. Coming back from the gym all sweaty and an empty stomach, I want something that can be made easily and have a great taste and thank God, oatmeal is there to satisfy my hunger. Oatmeal gives me power and a complete nutrition, which is essential for my body. I don’t know about all the TV commercials, but the ones with oatmeal are absolutely true. Oatmeal is one of the top power foods one can have these days.
10 reasons why I am a fan of oatmeal:
1. It stops cravings and doesn’t contain many calories as well.
One cup of oatmeal contains just 130 calories, and mind you, some calories are required by our body, so it is good to have some. Calories from a cheeseburger would harm you 10 times more than calories from oatmeal. Eating a bowl of oatmeal will keep you satisfied for a long duration. You’ll experience less hunger and cravings.
2. High fiber content and protein with low levels of fat.
Food that is rich in fiber content is always good because it is easier to digest and keeps the bowel movement in order. Protein, as we all know, is extremely important for our bodies, so consuming oatmeal will give you an ample amount of protein. Low levels of fat will bar you from getting obese.
3. Oatmeal reduces the risk of diabetes and also stabilizes blood sugar.
The whole food doesn’t transform into simple sugars as there is high fiber content available in the oatmeal along with complex carbohydrates. Oatmeal has high levels of magnesium as well, which ensures proper usage of glucose and insulin secretion.
4. Flushes out bad cholesterol.
Daily consumption of oatmeal will reduce the level of bad cholesterol without disturbing good cholesterol.
5. Safe for gluten sensitive people.
Oatmeal is a great option for those who are sensitive to gluten. If you have celiac disease or are intolerant to gluten, then you can have oats without any problem. Oats don’t have most of the prolamines that are found in wheat. Though, you will find the presence of Avenin, which is a prolamine that will affect avenin-sensitive people.
6. Oatmeal contains lignans, an element that offers protection against cancer and heart disease.
Oatmeal is similar to other whole grains that contain plant lignans. These lignans are converted into mammalian lignans by intestinal flora. The name of one lignin is ‘enterolactone’, and this enterolactone is known to provide protection against breast cancer and heart diseases.
7. Oatmeal contains certain antioxidants that are beneficial for the heart.
Certain antioxidants like avenanthramide are very effective in preventing free radicals from affecting LDL cholesterol, which in turn reduces the risk of any heart disease.
8. Oatmeal reduces the chances of heart failure.
If you are eating oatmeal everyday like me, then you are included in the elite group of people who have 29% less chance of having the heart failure. Oats are one of the most easily found grain in the world and they are prepared without going any refinement process.
9. Oatmeal increases immunity.
You might not be aware of a unique fiber that is present in oats. That unique fiber is called ‘beta-gluten’ and this fiber helps move neutrophils to the area more quickly where there is any infection in the body. Moreover, it enhances the ability of neutrophils to remove the bacteria, which is present in the infection area of the body.
10. Oatmeal is delicious.
We have discussed all the benefits of oatmeal, but I don’t eat oats because of all these reasons. I like eating oatmeal as it is delicious, prepared quickly and healthy of my body. Oats in the form of flakes or groats are great for breakfast. The rich nutty flavor of oats is irresistible for me. No matter, which process your oats have come out of, the fiber content and the level of nutrients are not reduced. So, you should make it a habit to have oats every single morning because when you’ll eat healthy, only then, you are going to live healthy.
