7 Tips for People Who Are On Their Feet All Day

7 Tips for People Who Are On Their Feet All Day: Standing all day is much better than having to work seated all day. This is because while standing you are using more energy and therefore you burn more calories than if you worked seated. Standing all day, however, can cause a lot of pressure on the feet which may lead to lots of discomforts and sometimes even pain. Standing all day can cause discomfort even in the back and the legs.

While working all day it is important that you follow some simple tips which will ensure that you get through the day with little or no discomfort at all. Here are some tips for people who are on their feet all day

1. Make sure your shoes are well-fitted and comfortable

Shoes are the main cause of discomfort in many people even those who do not necessarily work standing. Having the ill-fitting shoes on can cause major discomfort because the shoes restrict the flow of blood to the feet. The nerves and the muscles at the feet, therefore, are not replenished by the blood as required. Wearing tight shoes also causes blisters which make standing really uncomfortable.

When buying new shoes, try on shoes in the afternoon because at that time your feet are usually bigger than in the morning. Also, consider if you will be adding insoles or pads in the shoe to increase the comfort. You’ll also want buy a shoe that is a little bit bigger than your size so that there is space to add on the inserts.

The types of shoes you look for are also important, too. High heeled shoes are not a good fit in this regard. Flat shoes are the best. The Occupational Health Clinics for Ontario Workers suggests that the shoes should have a small heal less than two inches. The shoes should be able to provide proper arch support to the feet. Otherwise, arch insoles can be added.

The best types of shoes for standing all day are sneakers, clogs, athletic shoes like running and walking shoes. The brands recommended are Skechers, Asics and Saucony. Wear shoes that are cushioned or padded that offer extra comfort. Also, ensure that your shoes are made of breathable materials to keep the feet aerated enough.

2. Stretch constantly

Ensure that you take stretches every now and then. Stretches ensure that is proper circulation of blood to and from the feet. While standing stretch your foot back as far as it can go and hold for some seconds. Do the same for the other foot.

Another way to stretch is by doing the runners stretch. While facing a wall, place your hands on it. Extend one leg far behind you, hold for some seconds and the switch sides. You may also choose to remove the shoes and stretch the feet without the shoes.

3. Lose weight

Losing weight is a great way of not only acquiring overall health but also getting rid of excess pressure on your feet. Since the feet have a small surface area, being very heavy exerts more pressure on the feet. This can cause major stress on the joints and the ligaments causing them to break or get disjointed. Losing weight is a good permanent solution to many feet problems and diseases.

4. Stand correctly

Standing just like sitting should be done in the right posture. Ensure that when you stand your back is straight, not arched. Also, ensure that your shoulders are held up so that the neck is held properly in position. Maintaining a good standing posture will help prevent back problems and helps to distribute your weight evenly. This ensures that there is no excess pressure on parts of the feet where it should not be.

If you do not know how to stand correctly try standing against a wall. Your back should be aligned on the wall and your head should also touch the wall.

Regularly changing the standing positions can completely change how you feel. This is because when you change the positions you change the muscles groups that will be holding the weight. Redistributing the body weight this way will ensure that some muscles do not get fatigued. A simple position change can cause great relief.

5. Take sitting breaks

It is important also that you give your feet a break. Take regular short sitting breaks in between the day. Taking a break will give the feet time to rest which will give you the strength to go longer. You can take the sitting breaks during your tea breaks, bathroom or lunch breaks.

6. Do simple exercises every now and then

You can fidget and do knee lunges or squats every now and then during the day. This will help to increase circulation of blood through the body and avoid fatigue. It also helps because you put in your body in other positions thereby your feet muscles get a chance to stretch and relax. Exercises are also good because they make your body get used to the beating over time.
