Liposuction Before and After : Read below for a guide to what you can expect when you’re scheduled into a liposuction procedure in Melbourne.
Liposuction Before and After
Prior to your procedure
You may be requested to do some preparation in order to get the best and safest results from your cosmetic procedure. Two weeks out, for example, you may be requested to cease consuming non-prescription medicines, herbal supplements and vitamins. This will be determined by the type of anaesthesia that is being used in your surgery. Alcohol is typically restricted the week prior to your procedure as well.
You might also be directed to fast for a certain number of hours before you get liposuction performed and you will be advised how to restrict your liquid intake in order to prepare for surgery. Make up and the use of moisturisers and oils might need to be limited in the area that’ll be receiving the procedure.
Try to get a decent night’s sleep the evening before. Being rested is important, especially if you experience interrupted sleep after liposuction due to pain or an inability to get comfy because it doesn’t feel good to lie on your stomach, for example.
Another thing that is important to coordinate is your transport after you have been given the all clear to go home. You might feel a little groggy, queasy and tender, so be prepared and prevent last minute stress.
Post procedure
In many instances you will be advised to wear a compression garment to aid recovery after your procedure. Over this you may want to wear looser clothing for a few days in order to be as comfortable as possible. This is also a good idea if any post-operative dressings contain padding and many patients will also have swelling in their body. Button up tops for example, may be better suited than pull overs if you have had liposuction in the upper half of the body. The length of time that you will be requested to wear compression garments or dressings will range from a few days to weeks, depending on your body and the type of lipo that you have had performed.
Ideally you should have a buddy system in place after you have had your procedure performed. Not only will a friend or family member be useful in helping you get home safely, but they should stay with you after your surgery to provide you with care. In some instances you may arrange to stay admitted at hospital or if heading home, you might decide you prefer to organise a nursing service to assist you instead of people you know.
Pain relief options will be provided to you, but a tip is to stick to generic pain relievers to see if they are adequate for you before moving onto the prescription stuff. This is especially advised if you are prone to nausea and not feeling like eating a substantial meal just yet as you recover. Vomiting when you’re already experiencing tenderness or swelling in your body is not fun!
