Aldine de Gruyter wrote a book titled “Breastfeeding: Biocultural Perspectives: in 1995. In it, she describes the way that men and women from Mali think about breasts. She spent some time describing the sexual nature of boobs and how they always get involved in foreplay in the western world. The reaction that she got was anything but expected. The people listening to her descriptions were bemused in most cases, and outright horrified in the most extreme ones.
It turns out that these people thought of the sexualization of a woman’s breasts as “unnatural and perverted behavior.” In fact, the good people of Mali just couldn’t understand how a woman’s boobs could be used for sexual arousal. If you’ve ever seen those old National Geographic pictures of native women naked from the waste up, this is why. Their breasts aren’t thought of as sexual objects. They’re simply mammary glands that produce milk to feed the young and that’s it.
Loving Big Boobs is a Learned Behavior
What all of this really boils down to is the fact that sexual attraction to breasts is a learned behavior among men and women. You’re simply taught from a very young age that boobs are attractive and you just kind of fall in line with it. There are plenty of variations within this behavior, but the basics are always the same. It doesn’t matter if you prefer small boobs, shapely boobs, or large areolas. The simple fact is that everyone around you sexualizes them, so you end up sexualizing them as well. It’s just the way that it is and it’s not likely to change anytime soon. When you see those men taking glances at a large set of breasts on the street, it’s just him fulfilling his social contract in a way.
Men are meant to enjoy boobs and that’s why they do it. Men are also expected to check out a woman’s body whenever she happens to cross his path, so he does that as well. If you really want to make a man appreciate smaller boobs, or just ignore them altogether, you’ll have to get a time machine and get to him before the world teaches him to be attracted to a woman’s body, and especially her voluptuous mammary glands.
