How to Make Your Period More Comfortable and Bearable

How to Make Your Period More Comfortable and Bearable : That time of the month is not something every woman looks forward to. It’s uncomfortable, annoying, and it feels like you have to put your entire life on hold just to get through the weeks of cramps and going to the bathroom.

But there are steps you can take to help ease the pain and make your periods more bearable each month so that you don’t feel like you’re being tortured the whole time. Here are some easy methods you can start implementing into your daily life to make your periods easier to deal with.

Eating Healthier Snacks

It’s easy to give in to that craving for salty, fattening foods or sugary snacks that make you feel better, but that will actually make your periods feel worse. Salty foods will make you retain more water and make you feel more bloated at the end of the day. And they’re just generally bad for your health to begin with. Instead, you should invest in healthier snacks, such as nuts, vegetables, and fruits. Not only will this help you to keep the weight off, but you’ll also have more energy so that you’re not feeling sleepy all the time.

Getting Some Exercise

During your period, you’re more likely to stay in bed or on the couch and not want to move all day. It’s understandable, but instead of sitting around with a hot water bottle on your tummy, you’ll actually be better off getting up and moving around. Light exercise helps the blood to move around your body so that it can become more oxygenated; oxygenated blood actually reduces pain in the body, so get up and get that body moving. A light walk for about 10 to 15 minutes should be enough. Just stay away from exercises that put pressure on your abdominal area.

It’s also important that you’re choosing a menstrual product that you can use while exercising. You wouldn’t want to end up with an accidental spill and have to spend the rest of the day washing your clothes by hand.

Staying Hydrated

Water is the source of all life, and it can also be a source for reducing your cramps. Drinking lukewarm water during your period actually promotes blood flow around the body, thereby reducing the severity of your cramps. You can choose to sip it throughout the day or chug it, depending on how thirsty you really are.

If drinking a lot of water isn’t your thing, then you could eat some water-rich foods, such as watermelon, lettuce, cucumbers, and berries.

Avoiding Alcohol and Cigarettes

One of the best ways to reduce your period pains each month is to cut out smoking and drinking alcohol. They’re not only detrimental to your health but that can also trigger PMS symptoms such as depression and dehydration. They also slow down the flow of blood so your cramps could end up feeling a lot worse.

Taking care of your period pains don’t have to involve an entire cabinet of pain pills. Management of your health and taking care of your body are the best ways to minimize the severity of your pains so that you can go about your daily life, no matter how heavy the flow is.
