    When we set up our goals, we are usually highly motivated. That is why we make a heap of goals for ourselves and try to do everything at the same time.     If you don’t know what SMART stands for, it is:
    – Specific
    – Measurable
    – Attainable
    – Realistic
    – Timely
    Wanting to get strong or get ripped is a great goal, but the problem occurs when you don’t know when to start and when to finish. You can also make a goal that you want to do more pushups and it is still vague and unclear. What you need to do is to make goals that are specific, like “I want to do 20 more pushups” or “I want to run a 5k marathon”, etc. This not only helps you focus, but it also allows you to configure a starting strategy and it is clearly defined so you know when you have attained it. You also need to make your goal time-bound so you know how much time is left. You can break that time in bricks and attach a mini-goal to each brick so that the sum comes up to what you wanted.

    Follow the SMART method to ensure that your goals are realistic, achievable, time-bound, and measurable.

  4. Start small—end big

    Usually, goals should be easy enough to be attainable and hard enough to pose a challenge so that you don’t get bored. If it is too easy, you will get bored and won’t finish it. If it is too difficult, you will feel like a failure and drop it in the middle. Your goal should have a balance of comfort and challenge so that you take proper interest in it and when you finish it, you feel the achievement and the motivation to move on to the next goal. Another benefit of starting small is that you can ensure a win with each goal. The more you win, the more you will want to win. If you find success and confidence early on, it can ensure that you will keep up with it for a long time.

  5. Stay in it to win it

    We all know that change takes time. We can’t expect to become fit and athletic in a mere week. We know that everybody nowadays wants instant gratification and gets really bummed when they don’t get it, but if we are being realistic we will know that we have to set a realistic time frame to achieve our goals. When you develop a long term mentality, you will see your lifestyle change automatically. It will give you the patience and the perseverance to take up any long-term project and see it to the end.

  6. Understand the Need

    No matter what our goal is, there is some basic need behind it. It could be a lack of confidence, fear, insecurities, self-image, among others. We might set ‘losing weight‘ as our goal and our basic need could be that we were bullied because of being overweight. It could also be because we don’t like looking in the mirror. It could be because we have health issues and the doctor has put the fear in our hearts. It could be a lot of things. Understanding our need to have that goal is as important as having a goal and seeing it through.


Having fitness goals is a great thing. You just have to ensure that they are the right goals, you can easily achieve them, you have a time frame to complete them, and that they are for the right reasons.
